Little does he know that to rescue her he’ll have to deal with a ruthless spymaster, professional assassins, and a murky welter of intrigue and betrayal. Who is behind Rufus Prock’s poisoning? In the latest installment of the Oliver Redcastle series, Marietta, his ex-lover and mother of his daughter, Chloe, has once again gotten into trouble. Chloe persuades her father to cross the Atlantic for a rescue mission in London. While Marietta is being accused of murdering her late husband, far deeper conspiracies lie beneath these accusations and Oliver finds himself in the middle of a clandestine affair involving the Irish rebels and British spies. He must protect Chloe while trying to save Marietta. Louise Titchener adeptly combines history, mystery and adventure in a tantalizing plot with many twists and turns. Chloe once again demonstrates that she not only possesses her mother’s great beauty, but also her father’s strength of character and purpose. This is an entertaining, fast-paced series and always keeps me reading late into the night. I highly recommend all the books and I look forward to further Redcastle adventures. This is my honest opinion of an ARC I received from the author.

Once again Marietta is in trouble. Her rich husband has died and she is suspected of murdering him. Why Oliver and their daughter rush to help her is not understandable. Marietta is spoiled, vain and conniving. She has no problem sleeping with anyone she wants to and when one of her lovers is also found dead the plot thickens. Oliver finds himself involved in a web of intrigue that involves a plot of the Irish home rule and the English secret service. Interesting read and can't wait to read the next one.
